Signography: How Signage Reflects Local Heritage

It’s considered a cult art form by some. Who doesn’t remember the gas station signs pitching ice-cold pop or the Burma-Shave signs lining Route 66? But besides the kitsch factor, old signs are very often true reflections of a region’s local heritage and unique geography. You wouldn’t expect  local hotel signs or restaurant monuments in New York City, Chicago or San Francisco to have the same style and design as those found in Millinocket, Whitefish or Needles. PSL’s Signography takes you on a tour of the country’s designs and styles of signage past from coast to coast to coast.

With these representations of tribal art and cacti, thunderbirds and kachinas, where else could you be?
